Synopsis
In the arid expanse of contemporary New Mexico, Jack Cordero, 16, holds together a crumbling ranch with more pride than resources. Since his father's disappearance, he's been playing the adult cowboy: repairs, horses, fences, a hidden old revolver, and a solitude he pretends to have chosen. His routine shatters the night an object crashes in the desert behind his property. What he discovers defies all logic: Zeph, an extraterrestrial entity capable of manipulating elements and shifting form, in desperate flight. Zeph is not an invader but a refugee, pursued by the Silence—a parasitic alien consciousness that consumes worlds by progressively erasing all conscious life. Jack and Zeph form an unstable alliance, caught between adolescent fumbling, fear of abandonment, and the discovery of impossible trust. As Zeph learns humanity through the eyes of a boy who wants to seem harder than he is, Jack discovers that courage doesn't mean carrying everything alone. Together, they must identify the Silence's manifestations, protect isolated Western communities, and understand why Zeph might be the only key to stopping this cosmic extinction. Between desert rides, contaminated ghost towns, uncontrollable alien powers, and coming-of-age friendship around a campfire, Dust & Starfire explores the passage to adulthood, solitude, and the birth of shared courage in the face of absolute annihilation.
