Synopsis
In Ivory Coast's political capital, the Yamoussoukro chess tournament is far more than a simple competition: it's the springboard to continental championships and international recognition. Four local young prodigies – Kofi, an arrogant tactical genius; Ama, an intuitive and passionate player; Kwame, the thoughtful strategist; and Zara, the group's experienced player – train intensively under the direction of a legendary coach, Monsieur Adou, whose rigor and demands are unmatched. But the fragile balance breaks with the arrival of Wei, a young Chinese prodigy who comes with her family to compete in the tournament. Her impeccable play and captivating grace create an emotional shockwave. Kofi becomes obsessed with her, seeing in her both a rival and much more; Ama feels unexpected jealousy; Kwame discovers a deep intellectual connection; and Zara sees in Wei a genuine friendship. Monsieur Adou, horrified by this distraction, hardens his approach, creating mounting tensions. The tournament becomes the theater of a conflict between passion and ambition, where every chess move conceals unspoken feelings. The four young Ivorians must navigate between their emerging emotions, the expectations of their inflexible coach, and the fierce competition ahead, discovering that sometimes life's most beautiful strategies are played off the chessboard.
